Holga and LOMO exhibition - Shropshire, UK.

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Just a reminder about Christophe Dillinger’s exhibition starting next week.

Friday 28th March - Sunday 4th May 2008
Ludlow Assembly Rooms
1 Mill Street
Ludlow
Shropshire SY8 1AZ
ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk

Here’s the PR for the exhibition:

Having worked mainly with digital media, this new series of work sees Christophe returning to traditional picture-making techniques, often using lo-fi cameras and outdated film. The inherent frailty of this equipment is transferred to the photographs, which are often blurred, scratched and saturated. It is the mood, rather than the immediate representation of the subject that forms this body of work. These photographs include experimental works involving multiple exposure and film techniques.

Check out Christophe on flickr for an idea of what to expect. Got your own exhibition coming up? Contact me and let me know!

Updates..

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

It’s likely that updates are going to be few and far between for a while, but it’s for a good reason. I’m in the process of buying my first house, and my head is all over the place trying to sort out the mortgage, surveyors, and solicitor fees! But today I found out the the vendors have agreed to my offer on their house! Woo hoo! So sorry for the lack of updates, but I hope you’ll all understand.

Seattle Holga Army Day - Saturday 26th January, 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I was directed to this by kwyo. If you are in the area why not head down?! It’s this Saturday!

Ah, the flat, tinny sound of the plastic holga shutter. You know you love it. You know you want to hear more of it. So much so, in fact, that you want to go out and take a bunch of pictures with your holga. And because you’re such a social creature, you want to join forces with other holgas and make a holga day of it.

And if you don’t already have a holga, here’s a reason to locally rush to Urban Outfitters or Glazers (like you needed an excuse) to go get one. If you’ve got a little time, 120 film and cameras can be found at Glazers, Adorama, Freestyle Photographic Supplies and Amazon.com.

Saturday, January 26th at 2:00 p.m.
Pike Place Market
86 Pike Place
Seattle , WA 98101

Meet at the Flying Fish and the piggie junction. Have your holga around your neck and we’ll know one another. And if you don’t live in Seattle, you can still snap away and make the 26th International Holga Army Day.

Questions can be directed to kwyo [at] yahoo [dot] com.

If you, or anyone you know is planning a Holga event in your area, let me know and I’ll post it up here. I’d like to see more of these social gatherings - lets go back to interacting with people in real life! I went to a Flickr LOMO meet up once and it was a blast!

Holga Competition!

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The squarefrog news hound has sniffed out a competition for y’all at Photomedia Center. I quote:

ATTENTION fine art photographers working with HOLGA cameras!

In January 2008, the Photomedia Center will be featuring artists who have been invited through an open submissions process to exhibit their photography which was created with the assistance of the Holga toy camera. This plastic miracle has produced a track record of unexpectedly beautiful results in the hands of skilled image-makers.

The deadline for entries is December 22nd 2007. The three Best of Show selections receive a free copy of Light Leaks magazine. Full competition terms & conditions are available at the Photomedia Center. Why not check out some of the great entries from last year?

Attention Londoners!

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Flickr member PaparazziAlex just told me about West End cameras. Here’s what he had to say:

Just found out about this developers in London - West End cameras.
They do 120 colour develop only for just £2.99 in 24hrs, really useful for anyone then scanning their own shots at home (and people that don’t want to trust their precious shots to the royal mail). It has to be one of the cheapest prices around for London.

Thanks Alex! If anyone else has any suggestions for developers, leave a comment! It doesn’t only have to be UK based - lets share the love worldwide!

Mathematics Applied To Holga Cameras

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Mathematics applied to HOLGA cameras by stouf (via Lomography Blog)

“I ‘m going to make underwater shots with my HOLGA. I’ll put it inside an ewa-marine housing. Problem is that I won’t be able to see the shot number from the back…
So I though to make an external shot-counter. When you roll your film, you turn the wheel of a certain angle to fall on a correct shot position. This angle reduces as the diameter of the roll is increasing. Here, I used an empirical analysis (empirical means by experiment) to determine the good angles needed to turn the wheel in order to make 12 separated shots on a 120 film.
